£1.5 million for Saracchi, so what’s the problem?
Is the supporters anguish justified on this occasion?
On the face of it this looks like another transfer the club are dragging their heels on. Offering another loan deal when Boca only wants £1.5 million for the Uruguayan left back seems like a fee that shouldn’t even be an issue for this Celtic board. We need another left back to support Tierney so what is going on. We hear stories of delays, loan offers and other clubs being interested. So why is this transfer not done yet when it seems like such an easy win. Get him in the door and get on with the rebuild.
The fan base doesn’t really give the club the benefit of the doubt on these things anymore for obvious reasons. However I feel there has to be another reason this transfer hasn’t been completed yet. MON said recently that the club were looking to complete a deal so maybe there is something else that just isn’t right in a deal for a backup left back. Don’t forget we had a similar issue with Taylor just 12 months ago.
The most obvious thing would be personal terms. What if Saracchi is asking for a high wage that would push him into the bracket of higher earners at the club? Would fans still want the club to sign him on big wages as a player who is likely to be back up to Tierney when fit? Contract length, signing on fee, wages could all be an issue and I would guess theres something like that holding things up rather than the board refusing to pull the trigger. With the squad needing surgery in other key areas I don’t think it’s a position we would be looking to over spend and rightly so. I do think it’s a transfer that will get done after a bit of negotiating. If it doesn’t then I wouldn’t lose too much sleep to be honest. He’s a decent option to have in the squad for sure.
Celtic have earned a reputation for dragging their heels on transfers. This is one I won’t be giving them a difficult time for doing so.
