Bolton Wanderers are reportedly still interested in bringing Johnny Kenny back to the club after he spent the second half of last season on loan. Kenny stated that he wanted to go back to Celtic and fight for his place, however that now looks unlikely with the anticipated arrival of Kasper Høgh nearing completion.
According to trusted sky journalist Anthony Joseph, Bolton are monitoring Kenny’s situation as the Scottish champions move closer to strengthening their attacking options.
Bolton keen on reunion
Kenny enjoyed a productive spell on loan at Bolton and appears to have left a positive impression at the League One club. Now, Wanderers are said to be exploring the possibility of bringing the Republic of Ireland Under-21 international back on a permanent basis. The report adds that Celtic are prepared to listen to offers, but only after they have finalised the signing of Bodø/Glimt striker Kasper Høgh.
The 23-year-old has shown flashes of his potential during his time at Celtic Park, however breaking into Martin O’Neills first-team plans this season looks difficult for the former Shamrock Rovers striker.
If Høgh completes his expected move to Glasgow, the pathway to regular first-team football could become even more challenging for Kenny.
Despite the reported interest, no agreement is reported to have been reached between the clubs at this stage.Fellow championship club Millwall have also been credit with an interest in Johnny Kenny. Maybe we see some movement after Celtic complete the deal for Kasper Høgh.
Opinion.
Another loan for Johnny Kenny might be worthwhile if you want to showcase the striker to the inflated market before selling. If the club can get anything over £2 million then they might consider selling the Republic of Ireland international and putting the money towards the huge outlay for Kasper Høgh. Anything below that would not be worth selling in my opinion.
