Celtic have made a perfect start to the 2026/27 league season in terms of points, and perhaps more importantly, there are already signs that the summer recruitment is beginning to bear fruit. The green shoots are there, and some of the earlier recruitment the club did is starting to look like good business.
Duran has been one of the clearest examples. His speed, finishing and willingness to get involved has been well received by the Celtic support. His ability to contribute with assists as well as some fine goals have given Celtic another dimension up top. He’s more than making up for the tenacity lost when Daizen Maeda left the club.
His call-up to the national side is another positive indicator, even if it inevitably comes with a downside for Celtic. International football can be a double-edged sword. The opportunity to represent your country is a reward for good form and an important part of a player’s development, but from the club’s perspective it can also mean reduced availability, travel, fatigue and the ever-present possibility of injury. The same applies to Yang and the handful of others who may find themselves increasingly involved at international level as they continue their development at Celtic.
Celtic need players good enough to attract international attention, and they need a squad deep enough to cope when those players are away from the club. Celtic will benefit from the exposure Duran has from representing Columbia on the international stage but it will bring external attention to his performances. It’s all part of his development along his journey with Celtic. We just need to enjoy players like him while he’s here. So far, Camilo has moved clubs at the end of every season almost. Only once has he stayed at a club for longer than a year. The player clearly has a strategy for his career and it involved doing well and moving on. If he continues the way he’s started then we might find it hard to keep hold of him next season. Instead of the traditional two seasons we seem to get before players move on. Here’s hoping we get to enjoy Camilo for a long time yet, and here’s hoping he continues his form and development. At least the club have him signed up to a long term deal if clubs do come calling.
