Celtic have been credited with an interest in signing Lazio winger Matteo Cancellieri ahead of the new season. According to reports from Courier dell Sport, Celtic join West Ham in monitoring the 24 year old winger, who has just one year left on his contract. Lazio manager Gattuso is reportedly planning to overhaul his squad and Cancellieri is one of the players he’d be willing to let leave this summer.

O’Neill could look to add wingers

While Celtic have several wingers already at their disposal, the club will be looking to add quality to support what they already have in the building.

Cancellieri is capable of playing on either wing and has also featured through the middle during his career. With only 12 months left on his deal, Lazio look as if they are willing to cash in on the player before he can leave for free next summer. A potential stumbling block could be the club’s valuation of around 15 million euros.

Potential interest from England

West Ham are reportedly keeping tabs on the situation, meaning Celtic could face competition should they decide to pursue the winger.

Financially, that could make negotiations more difficult if their interest develops. However, at this stage, there is no indication that Celtic have made an official approach for Cancellieri.

The reports suggest the Scottish champions are simply among the clubs credited with an interest as Lazio prepare for potential departures under Gattuso.

With the transfer window still open, it remains to be seen whether Celtic’s reported interest develops into something more substantial.
