Celtic have had a bid rejected for Brentford youngster Benjamin Arthur according to The Richmond and Twickenham Times. Arthur spent the second half of last season online at Celtic and has clearly impressed management despite his limited game time. The paper reports that the enquiry was for a permanent transfer but was dismissed by Brentford chiefs straight away. Arthur is seen as one of Brentford’s brightest young prospects and is highly thought of by management. He impressed during his time in the youth set up enough to be compared to ex Celt Virgil Van Dijk.
Arthur only played six times for Celtic, including the infamous 0-0 at Ibrox where Celtic went through in the Scottish Cup after penalties. It appears that Brentford currently have no plans to sell the talented youngster but may consider further loan bids once their defensive injury crisis clears. It’s unclear whether Celtic will follow up on their initial interest but it does seem to confirm that centre back remains an area that Martin O’Neill wishes to strengthen. Does this maybe suggest that either Auston Trusty or Dane Murray could be moved on before the end of the window? Or is it a reflection of Cameron Carter Vickers seemingly unable to last a full campaign injury free?
