Martin O’Neill confirmed yesterday that an offer has now been put to Kelechi Iheanacho for the season ahead. The deal would see the Nigerian forward return to the club as one of the striking options available to the manager ahead of the opening games of the season. No agreement is believed to be in place yet and the striker appears to have other options on the table to consider.

With the Champions League tie approaching, you’d expect the club to ask the Nigerian for an answer shortly. Whether Iheanacho accepts the new offer (on expected reduced terms) has yet to be seen. If he does, he would be joining the clubs current striking options in Callum Osmand, Camilo Durán, Johnny Kenny and Shin Yamada. Although you would probably expect the last two to move on in some capacity before the window shuts. If they do, would Celtic look at another striker on top of Iheanacho? With new signing Durán able to operate wide of a front three O’Neill may look for additional fire power to help him start the season strong on all fronts.
