Everyone has been encouraged by the start Camilo Duran has made to life at the club. Especially considering the slow start our marquee signing has made to life as a Celtic striker. We all know it’s not easy to come in and deliver the goals the Celtic support are expecting right from the off. Duran has come into the side and offered a real threat whether it’s through the middle or on the right hand side. However there have been games where he’s been completely non existent. Particularly in the two biggest games of the season, LASK and Rangers away. For this reason I would hold off on the comparisons and confirm him as our best forward player just yet.
O’Neills comments were premature.
O’Neill recently stated that he left Duran on the bench to see whether the team could cope without him. Coming to the conclusion that they probably could not. The former Qarabag striker has started well but he still has a long way to go before we talk about him in the same breath as a prime Kyogo for example. It takes a lot more than a few goals to become Celtic’s main man up top. He’s made a promising start but we need to see more consistency over a longer period before we get carried away with the Columbian forward. We need him to start producing in the big games too. No time like the present with next week’s Rangers game at home. It’s games like this where I expect the columbian will deliver, as he did against LASK at home. It’s the big away fixtures we’ve yet to see him deliver.
Rangers at home will tell us a lot
He seems to have a tenancy to sulk and go missing from what I’ve seen so far. Granted in a small sample size. If he is going to be our main man we need him to take the responsibility whether Martin plays him through the middle or on the right hand side.
I full accept that you can’t judge a players body language completely, but will it tell us when Duran is up for the fight? Does he get frustrated about being put out on the right hand side when he’s not playing in his usually position? A couple of times already Duran has looked disinterested. Celtic need forwards who come alive in these big games. Kyogo was an example of a big game player for Celtic who turned up int he big games. How many times did he turn up with a goal against Rangers, sometimes when the team and himself were not playing well. That’s what Duran has to work towards, until then, it’s premature for Martin to say the club cannot do without Camilo Duran on the pitch.
Footballers get frustrated, especially young players, but we need Duran to channel that frustration into being the difference maker in big games. We can all see he has the ability to thrive. Hopefully thats what he does moving forward. He has real pace, drive and technical ability. Let’s hope he shows it more whether the manager has him playing through the middle or out wide. Even if he’s left on the bench and expected to make an impact after coming on.
Sunday is a huge game for the football club. I really hope we play Duran through the middle and give Hogh time to settle. If the manager gives him that role on the day then we will all be cheering him on to deliver the win that will put the Celts 8 points clear.
