Fresh reports are surfacing that Greg Taylor might not be part of the plans at PAOK this season. With his future looking increasingly uncertain, there have been links with a return to Celtic this season, potentially on loan.
According to journalist George Tsarouchas on X, Taylor is expected to fall out of the first-team picture after PAOK’s second Europa League qualifying match and will not remain in the club’s squad for the new season. The exact reasons are unknown but Taylor never really established himself as first choice last season.
The greek journalist also claims that Celtic have placed the 28-year-old on their transfer shortlist with as a possible return being currently considered. Celtic were recently linked with James Penrice, also playing in Greece with AEK Athens and Dundee Utd’s Will Ferry. So the club are actively looking for a left back after Saracchi returned to parent club Boca Juniors.
Taylor facing uncertain future this summer
Taylor only departed Celtic last summer on a free transfer after spending six successful years in Glasgow. However, if the latest reports are accurate, his spell in Greece could prove to be a short one with PAOK reportedly planning to move in a different direction.
Opinion
The suggestion that Celtic could now bring Taylor back only 12 months after he left is certain to divide opinion among supporters. Many fans were hoping the club would do a deal to bring back Saracchi on a permanent basis but that now seems unlikely.
Taylor’s previous experience at the club would make him a low-risk option but many fans will feel that Celtic should continue looking to the future rather than revisiting former players. Can we do better or is Taylor a sensible option as backup? I think both things can be true.
The report also notes that another Scottish club is showing interest. Could Rangers be looking to bring in the former Celtic man this summer?
Would you welcome Greg Taylor back at Celtic, or should the club look elsewhere to strengthen the left-back position?
