When Paulo Bernardo made his loan deal from Benfica permanent there was real excitement within the Celtic fanbase. Many thought that the former Portuguese u21 captain was ready to kick on and develop into a real first team player for Celtic. Sadly, this has not happened and the central midfielder has found his game time limited over the last couple of years.
Paulo Bernardo leaving the club this summer won’t have surprised many fans but not many will have expected him to move to Poland in search of first team football. Many would have expected him to return to Portugal maybe but that was not the case.
Paulo Bernardo joined Górnik Zabrze in Poland’s top flight on a season long loan with a buy option. Górnik Zabrze Are currently third in the Polish league after a strong start to the season. But how exactly is Bernardo getting on since leaving Celtic?

Does Paulo Bernardo have a future at Celtic?
It is hard to see the midfielder return to Celtic and become a first team regular even if he has a standout season in Poland. His development hasn’t really gone the way the club would have hoped. We’ll always have that memory of the Scottish Cup Final where he helped set up the winner for Adam Idah against Rangers. Hopefully Bernardo can kick on in Poland and get his career back on track to fulfil his undoubted potential.
