Martin O’Neill has praised centre back Dane Murray indirectly while discussing Maik Nawrocki’s future at the club. The managers comments have opened the door for Murray to be part of the squad for the season ahead, potentially at the expense of Nawrocki.

When asked about Nawrocki’s Celtic future O’Neill has been quoted as saying “We have Cameron Carter-Vickers back, big Dane Murray whom I’ve got a lot of time for. Then you’ve got Liam Scales and you’ve got Auston Trusty at this minute.”

Opinion
It’s possible that O’Neill is using it as a chance to build up Murray’s confidence, however based on performances most fans would probably expect the club to move him on this summer. Whether that be a loan or transfer. I see Nawrocki as a better option for that 4th centre back slot based on what we’ve seen from both players so far. Murray seems well liked but so far he doesn’t seem to have what it takes to make it at Celtic. It now looks like Nawrocki will shortly leave the club with Lens in France rumoured to be the club in question.
