Celtic’s squad has gone under significant reconstruction this summer with 17 players leaving the club so far. Celtic DNA has looked ahead to see which contracts are due to run out in the summer of 2027.
How will this impact the work that Celtic still have to do this window?
Which Celtic players are out of contract in 2027?
Celtic’s 2027 contract decisions
Celtic appear to have major player contracts well managed with only four squad players deals running out next summer. The club can now take it’s time to decide which, if any, deserve a new contract next summer. There are currently no first team players with 12 months left on their deal which can only be good news for the club. Celtic only have to look to the cut price sale of Daizen Maeda due to the Japanese forward having only 12 months left on his contract. The fact that all key players are tied up is a major positive for the club.
Which Celtic players could sign a pre-contract in January 2027?
As it stands, all four of these players could sign a pre contract with other clubs in January. However, this is unlikely to be a concern for the club due to all four being squad players at this stage in their careers. If any of them moved on next summer it wouldn’t be much of a blow at all.
Anthony Ralston – Contract situation
There were rumours recently that Anthony Ralston would be signing a new deal but that has yet to materialise. The 27 year old has only made one squad this season under O’Neill and that was since Johnston got injured. If the club does not offer Ralston a new deal then he’ll be free to leave the club next summer. The Celtic academy graduate has been a good servant to the club so it’s expected the club will renew his deal at some point for the seasons ahead.
Adam Montgomery – Contract situation
Adam Montgomery has been sent out on another loan to Livingston for the campaign ahead. He has spent much of the last four seasons injured and out on loan, so he is not expected to have his deal renewed when it runs out this summer. Sadly, Adam hasn’t made the grade at Celtic after a promising start under Ange Postecoglou.
James Forrest – Contract situation
Club legend James Forrest had his deal extended by the club for the season ahead, despite game time being limited. The club’s most decorated player has made comments about not wanting to play for another team once his time at Celtic comes to an end. At 35, It’s possible that James contributes from the bench this season before retiring next summer.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain – Contract situation
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain having his contract renewed this summer raised several eyebrows amongst the Celtic support. The former Liverpool and Arsenal man didn’t contribute much during the title run so many had expected him to leave the club when his initial short term deal ran out. Of course this turned out not to be the case and it is yet to be seen how much he will contribute this season.
Summary
Celtic deserve praise as no key players are out of contract in the next 12 months. That means it will take a considerable offer to part with any players that the club determines to be a strong asset. It’s reasonable to expect Montgomery and Oxlade-Chamberlain to leave the club when their contract expire next summer. It’s yet to be seen whether Ralston will be offered a new contract. The club will likely wait till the end of the season before making a decision on James Forrest like they did this summer.
