Who is Celtic target Gvidas Gineitis?
With speculation continuing to grow around Arne Engels’ future, Celtic have once again been linked with a move for Torino midfielder Gvidas Gineitis.
The 22-year-old Lithuanian has established himself as one of the brightest young midfielders in Serie A, and various reports suggest that Celtic are monitoring his situation as they look to strengthen the middle of the park.
But who exactly is Gineitis, and what could he bring to Celtic?
A regular in Serie A
Unlike many players linked with Celtic, Gineitis isn’t making his name in a smaller European league.
The Lithuanian international has earned regular first-team football with Torino in Serie A, one of Europe’s most competitive divisions.

Why are Celtic interested?

Gineitis fits that profile perfectly. If signed, Celtic will look to expose him to European football to further increase his exposure, like they did with Arne Engels.

Whether Celtic are willing to pay the money Torino are looking for is yet to be seen. The Italian club are reportedly looking for a transfer fee in the region of £12 million pounds. Which would make it one of the richest in Celtic’s history. Do the club feel the deal represents value for money and do they believe they can achieve a higher sale price when it’s his turn to leave the football club. That is the key to any potential deal.
Is a transfer likely?
At this stage, there has been no official confirmation that Celtic have submitted an offer. Reports suggest the Scottish champions have shown interest, while Torino are understood to value the midfielder highly.
Whether that interest develops into formal negotiations remains to be seen as the transfer window enters its final weeks. It will likely depend on whether the club sanctions a move for in demand midfielder Arne Engels.
