Celtic’s search for attacking reinforcements has taken another twist with reports in Italy claiming the club have seen an opening offer rejected for Frosinone winger Fares Ghedjemis.
According to transfer journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Celtic submitted a bid worth around £6 million for the Algerian international, only for the Serie A club to reject the approach.
The report adds that Frosinone are keen to retain one of their prized assets as they prepare for the new campaign, despite growing interest from Scotland.
Celtic’s rekindle interest from January
The Scottish champions are rekindling previous interest after being close to signing Ghedjemis in the January transfer window last season. Martin O’Neill even confirmed a move was close before the Algerian decided to stay and push for promotion to Serie A with his current side.
It is said that Celtic are keen on pushing a deal through to bring the wide man to Scotland.
Despite the club possessing several wide men there has been an increasing feeling that further competition is needed. An injection of quality that helps by scoring goals and setting them up for Celtic’s new look front line.
Ghedjemis looks to fit that profile. Whether the Scottish champions return with an improved bid remains to be seen.
